Post subject: Splitting large MB files TIP, Part 1

We've seen many posters split their files with winrar in pieces of 100,000 KBkbytes, aka 98 mbytes.

You may want to consider a better way to split your files.

When you type in the size in winrar for the rar parts, DO NOT TYPE 100000 (kilobytes), instead TYPE 100MB (yes, 100mb , as you see it) and then winrar will make sure that it splits the file into 104xxx kbytes, aka pure 100mb. You can then proceed into safely uploading them in your rapidshare account or elsewhere (rapidshares upload size limit is 100mb, not 100,000kbytes).

(you actually gain 2 extra megs squeezed in per rar part this way..).

Hope it helps Wink

Consider creating a a profile in winrar where you have preselected split in parts with 100mb and checked the rar each file into seperate archive (so if you got two vids you get two seperate rar archives, if you want u can skip that check). Just Save the profile with any name you like and make it DEFAULT. Then whenever you right click->Add to archive "xxxxxx.rar" it automatically rars and splits the file into 100mb chunks without setting the options every time.

We also suggest setting the compression level to STORE. The simplest/fastest option (it practically splits the file without compressing it at all). The reason is that media files are compressed only to about 96-98% with winrar (virtually 100%) and if you just STORE compress it you get fewer chances of a corrupted rar file being downloaded afterwards.

Comments welcome!
