Post subject: Is there a work around for cwawdm(04) codec errors? Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsme>multimedia (more info?)
See http://www.novalogic.com/kb_article.asp?ID=59 for exact problem. Summary
is that I got Blackhawk Down (game by NovaLogic) for christmas along with an
XTASY ATI RADEON 9250 128-Bit PCI card. I installed the card successfully in
my HP Pavilion 7850 ME PC (see...
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/prodinfoCategory?dlc=en&lc=en&produ...60514&l
for specs) and when I launched the game I got a blue screen error that read
"cwawdm (04) + 00002BA8 Error : 00:0028 : FF10C828" and was instructed to
SHIFT/ALT/DELETE or PRESS ANY KEY TO RETURN TO WINDOWS. Neither of which
worked and I had to perform a hard boot. Novalogics says they have found
that this error is being generated because my sound card drivers (cwawdm.sys)
cannot support the Direct Sound requirement for the game. They suggested
disabling the card in order the play the game, and noted – This issue applies
only to Windows ME users with a Crystal Media sound card installed. My card
is Onboard.
I tried playing the game with the card disabled but then I have no sound at
all. Is there a work around that doesn't require buying a new PCI sound
card? I've searched endlessly for a driver update, but can't find one for
ME. My current driver is Crystal AC9x WDM Driver version 5.12.1.4026.
Cirrus Logic (Crystal Mfr) has it listed as CS4281 on their site...
http://www.cirrus.com/en/support/drivers/audio/OS20.html
when I type AC9x WDM in their search field.
Suggestions anyone?
