Post subject: web page adjustments
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>inetexplorer>ie6>setup (more info?)

How do I change the settings so all web pages are viewed correctly? most
websites are not centered, with 1/4 of the right side of my screen showing
only the background color. I've adjusted the font size, monitor pixel size
and nothing works. I've searched all over for answers but none, help! I've
wasted hours.

Hello, just wondering if you figured out your problem.....I bought my wife a
new laptop, download a few free games that came with it (Dell), and I have
exactly the same problem. Did you figure out a solution??? Ken

Often such pages are designed to be displayed optimally only using
what is thought of as the most common screen resolution 800x600
(aka Super VGA). Have you tried switching to that resolution?

Robert, thanks for the feedback - I played with the resolution - I think you
are right that the web pages are
configured with an optimal size. So, I tried variations and found one that
works a lot better (1280 x 768)
- it's a lot better. Just some pages I have to scroll right on - but, at
least it fits the page consistnetly. Thanks

Robert, one more question for you - changed my settings and was satisfied
with how
web pages looked......then, I tried to install a game we had (Wheel of
Fortune) and
I lost desktop display - meaning, I had about an inch of space on each side
of my display.
So, I uninstalled the game. Did not correct the problem. So, I right
clicked on my mouse
and I have a Graphics Properties option - changed it to full screen, and made
it fit the
page. The fonts look alittle stretched.....so, is there a way to set the
monitor resolution
to the manufacturer's default values??

Best tool that I know of for changing screen resolution more dynamically
is shareware called PowerStrip from EnTechTaiwan. Supposedly
customized versions of it may come with certain video cards.
