Archived from groups: microsoft>public>win2000>general (more info?)

I have a windows 2000 server which I want to upgrade to windows 2003. I put
in a window 2003 R2 CD 1 into the server. but then I get a message that
windows 2000 cannot be upgraded to windows 2003 standard. Its a normal
windows 2000 server not a windows 2000 advanced server.

I put in a windows 2003 r2 enterprise CD and then I get an option to
upgrade.

Can you upgrade to windows 2003 standard?

This is the below error message I get:

Windows Setup does not support upgrading from Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
to Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition.

This is the same message I get in the update.txt file which gets created in
winnt32 /checkupgradeonly.
Its definitely a windows 2000 server. I have tried this on several windows
2000 servers.
Setup cannot continue.
