Post subject: upgrading or changing a domain from Windows 2000 Chinese to 2003
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>win2000>security (more info?)

Is it possible to change my existing domain that is Windows 2000 SP4
Chinese to Windows Server 2003 English?

Can I just run the adprep from the CD and it will fix all my Schema?

Once all is set I would like to move the FSMO's over to the new
Windows 2003 English Server?

What do you think?

I would say YES, but the best way to determine that is to do it in a test
environment and see what happens

If I dont have a test environment, then would you recommend that I
just go ahead and stay with the localized version Chinese?

I completely agree with you. I have had very developed test
environments in the past to help with 6,000 workstations. This is a
small business and they don't have any money for anything, not even a
used box to use. I feel they do not want to understand, but I will
try to do my best. I think I will just leave it alone and hope the 5
year old dell server PDC does not fail. I am not sure what else I can
do.

Can I just load MS Virtual Server, Load the Chinese Windows 2000 then
make it a PDC?

not having a test environment is in my opinion not smart. It is easy to
setup a test environment. Setup some VMs and mimic the prod env as good as
possible for the stuff you want to test

Make sure you tell this to your customer/boss in writing/mail including the
consequences. Make it HIS/THEIR decision, not yours
