trouble shooting cd rom

i have just replaced a cd rom in a friends computer .. was working just fine and went to plug in the other cd rom which is a cd writter ... hence this computer is an older one and has no recovery disks what so ever... well when you boot up the computer it shows the cd roms on the screen and then when windows loads up no cd roms are under my computer... then when you goto the control panel to system devices there is this in there..... ! primary ide controler and the secondary controlers have an issue... i have umpluged the other cd writter and still wont work i am frustrated can anyone help? please and thank you

What does it say the issue is?

Try removing the new drive, installing the latest motherboard chipset drivers and then put the new drive back in.
