Post subject: How to stop/prevent re-use of old machine accounts? Archived from groups: microsoft>public>win2000>active_directory (more info?)
In the past, you were not able to join a new machine to the domain
under an already used machine account. You had to delete the old
machine account or reset it first. This has now been "fixed" and it
causes problems for us because there is often info and group
memberships associated with the old account that are no longer needed
on the new machine and this requires people to remember edit the
account for the new user and delete unneeded group memberships and
perhaps also move it out of the old users OU.
Is there any way to set active directory back to the old way of
requiring a new or reset computer account when a new machine is joined
with machine name from a different Windows installation (different
machine SID)?
