Not sure, but check for a blockage of Omniture/SO7.net and Akima Tech.. Both
are apparently part of the signin process now [and WHY is beyond me...].
Also, make sure you have installed the Security Certificate...
AND, what version of JAVA are you using?
Are you using the https signin?
Messenger was updated [no support for 98], I don't use it so I can't verify
whether that may be a problem.

| Getting Network timeout for hotmail and Msn instant messenger will
| not work.
|
| Tried trillian. It kind of worked, but kept knocking me off every few
| seconds.
|
| What is odd, it works for people that have direct connection but not
| dial-up. My mothers work can access hotmail. They have wireless
| access. The two dial up ISP, I tried timed out.
|
| I checked my host file, there is nothing that would block it.
|
| I tried different browsers and neither worked.

Should have mentioned that if on phone line, letting the initial sign-in
page run until it stops [takes quite awhile] will cause it to popup the
sign-in screen again.
IF you wait about 30 seconds after the original signup... and click reload,
the signup process will generally finish properly [signed-in]. {look at the
bottom of the browser for the address which indicates its loading the
signed-in page...}
This is exactly like a problem they had approx. five or six months ago...

Glad you got it worked out, and posted back with the answer to your issue.
Thanks

| Thank you for your help.
|
| Unfortunately still on dial-up. I fixed the problem. It had
| something to do with outpost firewall. I uninstalled it and the
| reinstalled the program and now everything is fine.
|
|
| I think what happen is when I restored the computer last week, the
| files of outpost did not restore correctly. Some files became
| corrupted and some how blocked login.live.com which also blocks msn
| instant messenger. Ironically at the same time, some people were
| having problems connecting to msn instant messenger.
