-- When I try to open Outlook Express, my Inbox page appears and next to a
little plug at the right hand bottom of the page is the word "connecting",
however, nothing happens. After a minute, a dialog box appears stating "Your
POP3 server has not responed in 60 seconds. Would you like to wait another 60
seconds to respond?" Regardless if I click on either the "Wait" or the
"Cancel" box, the message reappears in 60 seconds. Coincidence or not... ? I
downloaded/installed SP3, and I also followed some instructions from a
Rhapsody techie to correct a gliche in that program and then went to check my
e-mail. Anyone know what I did wrong or how to correct this? RSVP

If you wait even longer, you should eventually get a detailed error message.
If you do, post it.
Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and
causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes
and has even been responsible for lose of messages. Your up-to-date A/V
program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3
Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program
and reinstall in Custom Mode and opt out of e-mail scanning when the option
arises.

1. Has this account ever worked in OE?
2. Are you running Spyware Doctor or Spyware Doctor with Anti-Virus (cf.
http://www.pctools.com/)?
If the former, it isn't an anti-virus application.
If the latter:
Have you purchased it or are you (still) running the free-trial version?
How long has it been installed?
What anti-virus application had been installed before this one? Has a
Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the machine?

Have you uninstalled AVG8? Did you uninstall it before you installed SD
w/AV?
You'd have to contact PCTools Support (or read the Help file or Users
Manual) to find out how to disable email scanning.

I have uninstalled AVG8, however, after I installed SD, because I also
desperately installed Windows Live OneCare. I also have SoftSpy SE on my
machine!
FYI - I discovered where to disabled the SD virus scanner.
I appreciate your assistance!

You do NOT want OneCare and SD w/AV installed!

Wanna tell us how? It could help other users later on.
More importantly, did disabling email scanning resolve your problem.
