Post subject: Cant select IE on Desktop checkbox because its not there! Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>inetexplorer>ie6>setup (more info?)
Hi all
Hope you had a Merry Christmas!
This was the closest group I could find so I'll try here.
I cant get the IE Icon to show on desktop.
I can only make a short cut, but I dont want that, I want the icon.
If I look in control panel->display->Desktop Tab,
then click "Customize Desktop",
the checkbox and the text are missing for Internet Explorer.
Ho do I reenable the checkbox so I can select it to put IE back on my
desktop?

Go to "Control Panel", "Internet Options", click on the "Advanced" tab
and in the "Browsing" section make sure that "Show Internet Explorer
on the desktop" is checked. If it isn't, check it and click "OK".

Hi all
still same problem.
Thanks but no such option with xp sp2 and ie7.. its not there.
Additionally, there is no option in cntl panel->display>desktop
tab->customize desktop->general tab
to check Internet Explorer. Its a policy that affects all users too.

Please try the IE7 group.
The recommended newsgroup is microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

Thanks to one and all for the great info!
I see they had a security update, changed the shell and wedged this
modification in with it.
Thanks,
