Try cleaning the CD surface with a soft coth and warm water. Dry it
thoroughly with another soft cloth. Do not touch the data surface
with your fingers - hold the CD by the edges and/or the center hole.

Good luck

3 CD players on one PC? - a bit of an overkill <g>

However, as the problem *may* be just down to a 'worn-out' or faulty CD-ROM
(I'm guessing that CD-ROM #1 is more than a few years old), your simplest
(and cheapest!) approach would be to try physically transposing/substituting
player #1 with player #3 (or #2) and then see if the problem follows the
transposition.

Then review your next step.

Whoops!

I've just re-read your post and suspect that you really mean that you are
referring to a faulty 'Restore' CD which is #1 in a set of three (OEM CD's)

If so, you may have to contact the OEM to see if they are willing (and able)
to supply a new set.

An possible option would be to see if the #1 CD can be read from another PC
and if so, see if it can be copied to a new CD. A different player just
might read it.
