That could be a good question for a WinXP group.....this is a Win98 group, and you
will get much more relevant answers in the appropriate group.

Try:
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers
microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support

Ok, as long as you're here, see if anything here helps:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_standby.htm

http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm

Also, try this:
Right -click "My Computer" in the Start Menu and click Properties on the menu that
appears.
Click the Advanced tab, then click the Settings button under "Startup and Recovery".
In the "System Failure" section, uncheck the box for "Automatically Restart" and
click OK, then OK.

This will turn off the behaviour of restarting when a STOP error occurs (you may be
getting a STOP error when attempting to enter Standby, and it is triggering the
restart).

If you then get a blue screen STOP error when you attempt Standby, write down the
relevant data in the blue screen and post back with the information, as described
here:
http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/bsod.php

Make a note of what if any system file is mentioned, of the eight digit hex number
(such as 0x0000001e or 0x0000009f), and of the part of the error message that states
something like:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or DATA_BUS_ERROR or DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

Reply with your results.
