I haven't used IE for anything but .chm help files in YEARS, but
I would /guess/ it's javascript or some other site mechanism
that makes those warnings appear in spite of the settings you
have.
You could turn javascript off (I assume) but you might as well
try another browser. Opera-USB is REALLY excellent, takes some
time to get used to but well worth it. For simple non-flash/non-
javascript browsing, you might want to try OffByOne - no-
install, 100% safe, no cache, fast as hell, one cookies file in
its own directory.

Why isn't IE6 SP1 installed yet?
PS: If IE6 SP1 isn't installed, the computer's not been fully-patched at
Windows Update for many, many years. I would NOT use the computer online in
its current condition.

Potentially?? You may have policies involved or some program
interfering with those changes. Check the related registry entries.
You should, as PA suggests, install IE6, for its extra security
protection, and which MAY take care of those issues.

Surely if you are running 5.5, you NEED these warnings to show so that you
can heed them and avoid unsafe sites.

As others have said, you should want to enable all security measures for
your own safety. Those MVPs can arrest you for this! I am using IE6 SP1,
& I have all of those checked.
But I'm thinking that "Internet Options, Advanced tab" could possibly be
out-of-sync with the reality of Registry settings. Therefore...
(1) Turn those on.
(2) Reboot.
(The one about certificates requires a reboot.)
(3) Turn them off again.
Another guess is that severe settings at "Internet Options, Security
tab" might override what can be done/prevented at the Advanced tab. (I
don't know.)
