Post subject: output to HP Designjet 650 from NT 4 very slow Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsnt>print (more info?)
I am using a windows NT 4.0 server that has the latest service pack (6a)
installed. The server is connected to an HP Designjet 650c plotter that has
20 megs of ram installed (on the plotter). The computer is a pentium
processor with 128 megs of ram. The server is rather old but it is still
reliable. Users (5 in the office) can access the plotter through a TCP/IP
network to submit their print jobs. When a job is sent through the network,
the print job is spooled to the NT 4 server and then is sent to the plotter
itself through an lpt cable (on LTP1).
My question is, how can I confiure or control or speed up for that matter
the spooling process on Windows NT 4.0 server?
A second option would be to move the HP designjet printer to a windows XP
home edtion computer and have the plotter shared out that way. Would the
change of computer help speed up the plotting/spooling process?

dig up a network card for the device rather than using parallel.
You will need to increase the LPT timeout configuration if jobs start
erroring out.
