Archived from groups: microsoft>public>win95>setup (more info?)

When I try to map a network drive to a Win2000 or WinServer2003 box
from Win95, I get a popup window asking for a password to connect to
(for example) //Jojo/C$

I enter the correct administrator password for Jojo, but I still get an
error: "The password is incorrect, please try again."

What I've tried:

* use windows logon instead of Client for MS Network
* enable the guest account on the box with the resources
* create an account on the resource box that matches my login on the
Win95box
* delete all the .pwl files in c:\windows on the win95 box

I've read about using text passwords, but not
sure that's what I need to do.

Am I on the right track with any of the things I've tried? Other
solutions? Why can't I map a drive?

Thanks in advance.

How about create an account on the server(s) for the Win95 _computer_, not
the user?

You may also wish to study the "net use" command, there may be some options
for using the administrator password from the client.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Good suggestions. But I found a work-around. I've got a Snap Server 1000
40Gb NAS. The best thing about these critters is that they connect to
anything - Mac, Unix, Windows 95 - just plug in a 100Mbps cable and you're
connected. I didn't even have to map a drive. It just showed up in Network
Neighborhood. So I copy whatever I need (e.g. the Office 2000 CD) from my
XP box to the NAS, then copy it to Win95. Best thing since sliced bread.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
