Post subject: Cannot load SOFTWARE Hive - no ERD - tools available to repa Archived from groups: alt>comp>os>windows>registry-editing, others (more info?)
I have been presented with an NT4 SBS4.5 + SP6a which has a corrupted
SOFTWARE hive. This results in a STOP C0000135 on boot complaining about
winsrv.dll (as per KB Q173309).
We do not have a backup of the registry available.
I could use a fresh one from the repair set but there are entries that I
really need to get back from the broken HKLM\Software.
The file is toast - an offline regedit says "Registry Editor could not load
the key. The file is not a valid Registry file". It's not completely lost
because I can still see 18MB of what could perhaps be semi-useful
information in a hex editor.
Is anyone aware of any tools that will repair a corrupted hive, or at least
allow me to get some useful information out?
