I have 64 Registry keys that mention avast. I guess a lot of those would
be the same. A lot seems to be settings & MRU lists. Does it still show
v.1351 for you at...?...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ALWIL Software\Avast\4.0
I don't know; maybe an un/re-install of that is necessary. Except it's
going obsolete soon.

It must've been the password.

That would be the scariest thing-- drivers!

Add/Remove Programs may be out of whack. It may not show stuff that has
been installed, & it may show stuff that already has been uninstalled. I
guess you can live with that. Some programs keep a database in the
Registry; for instance, IE keeps its list of blocked sites there.
"START, Run, MSConfig, Startup tab" may also look different now. Your
START button menus may be different. I guess you can work through these
things as they come up. Check that your main stuff works right.

See whether it's working now, per what I posted elsewhere. It should be.
To keep a real old one, just copy it out of SYSBCKUP. But I don't
approve keeping old ones! You should keep a full system backup instead!

I wonder why SpyBot didn't detect this before you did the /Restore.
Anyhow, good it's gone! It makes me wonder whether you should restore
the replaced Registry or pursue the problems that come up as you are
doing.

As MEB said, PepiMK produces/sells SpyBot. Maybe these keys reflect
SpyBot has done its work. I guess RegAnalyser is part of SpyBot.

That must have been the offending entry. Follow the Google search I

You retored an older Registry that had it. Maybe between then & now you
had run SpyBot & removed it once before?

Looks like it did. That's a hopeful sign that the Registry restore cure
the disconnectivity!

And guess what PCR,, it was a malware thing from around the era of
2007,, at least that is what I found via a search.
Yet again, the registry roll-back has proved useful.

No problem(s) at all friend, but as for understanding how Zlob did it, I
will leave that up to you,, (one day I will understand how to

Yes, but in a slightly different manner.
Mine start from Rb000.cab through to Rb0004.cab followed by Rbbad.cab.

Yes, but in a slightly different manner.
Mine start from Rb000.cab through to Rb0004.cab followed by Rbbad.cab.
Either way, there are 5. (Rb0004 is my 2007)
Btw, I read somewhere once that it was impossible to use a reg' backup
if it was really old,,,, did I just make an exception?
Um and Er.. I dont know if I should post this here or start another
thread so all can be helped and learn,, but, I am going to anyway
mainly because I know you will read this.
PCR, I have noticed something else that has happened with my computer in
the last few months, it relates to files in my C:Root directory and even
on my F:drive.... the files are called "File0000.chk" and count on up
to 10 then> (hex)> (c). In my C: there are now 13 of them,, and when
sending them to 'the gun or notepad', they seem to be noting places I
have been to...... each one having different information.
Do you know what they are? or why they are showing now after I have had
the computer for 5 years and never seen them before?
Should I start a new thread?
Is something logging my activity? If so, why? (putting aside the fact
that I murdered 76 people in 19 countries...... ha ha.!!)(the way my
bones are at the moment I can barely walk 19 paces, let alone 19
countries... chuckle.)

YES.... I was really happy when I got given it a few months ago,, was

I have been all over the net in relation to "BlitzenZeus ruleset",,

Is there a direct link to get this file?
The one I got is::

I posted the site above in this thread. Go read that one; it has more;
but...
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,8023708
The final version states its correct size...
Directory of C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
BZKERI~1 ZIP 95,142 01-24-06 6:59p
BZKerio2xDefaultReplacementFinal.zip
Inside you find 2 .conf files & 2 .gif. Click the .gif to see what the
rules look like. Put the .conf's (& the .gif's too I guess) into...
C:\Program Files\Kerio\Personal Firewall
....or wherever you've installed Kerio. Then, switch to the .conf you
want through the Kerio tabs. Plug in your DNS as I posted above in this
thread. (I'm currently in communication with NetZero to see why my DNS
numbers have switched to Coretel numbers-- they want more information!)

one for a different version of Kerio. Get the one for your version!

Huh? Oh, oh ... right ... optimism ... sure. But I didn't capitalize
your slap! Well, it may be worthwhile to un/re-install avast!, then, or
have it repair itself using Add/Remove Programs.
I wonder... do you get those horrible freezes with avast!, if/when you
click to open Explorer while avast! is auto-updating its definitions (as
shown by the circular, double arrow iAVS icon in the Tray)? It could
take up to 15 minutes the update to complete & things to get back to
perfectly normal! But I've learned to live with it. It also happens when
I type an URL into the Taskbar's address bar & hit then ENTER key!

Very good. But when stuff like this happens, it's good to find a site
like...
http://home.mcafee.com/VirusInfo/
Plug in your virus/trojan & see whether SpyBot removed all the elements
of it. And removing the virus, itself, may not be all that needs to be
done. If the payload was released, could be the damage must be undone as
well. The site may say what to check for.

The computer that is hit with it is the one that must be examined for
the specific damage a virus/trojan may do. I think the main thing is
that your connectivity is restored. But just nose around for anything
else that ZLOB.DNSChanger or win32 Fraudloader might have done-- if
anything. What SpyBot did, didn't solve the connectivity problem.
Reverting the Registry solved it. But reverting the Registry doesn't
affect any files but System.dat, User.dat, System.ini, & User.ini (under
normal circumstances). Maybe there is yet a file somewhere that should
be deleted or repaired. Reverting the Registry probably prevents it from
starting, but it is still lying around somewhere, maybe. Do a big Google
search on those two badies!

Post them for examination. Does one have today's date? Then, it looks
like you are getting -- as you should -- at the 1st boot per day.
> Btw, I read somewhere once that it was impossible to use a reg' backup

It isn't impossible. The five most recent ones that are in SYSBCKUP will
be offered by ScanReg /Restore. You have to get the older one into that
folder & move one of the other 5 out, because only 5 are offered. (RBBAD
is never offered, unless renamed with a number. Generally, you don't
want it.) It usually is not advisable to restore a very old one, because
it is out-of-sync with more recent settings, installs & uninstalls. But
I guess your circumstance was tough to solve otherwise.

Those files are created by ScanDisk when it runs at startup after a
crash or a forced shutdown. They are really unusable now, except to look
at. Usually, they contain junk -- bits/pieces of temporary files that
were open at the time of the crash. They may have been temporary files
that your your browser or ISP were using. Have you been holding in the
computer start button for four seconds to force a shutdown? Are you
still crashing? The date of the files is the date of the reboot. What is
the most recent date?

I'm not sure. Have you not looked? Possibly they have the Hidden or
System attribute (I haven't got one to look at right now. R-Clk, &
select Properties to see). Then, they wouldn't show up until you set
Folder Options to show them. I think you did that recently, IIRC. Start
a new thread only if you are still crashing-- which I very much doubt!

OK. Remember to do it again just before you need to do a series of
/Restore, not that it comes up all that much. I think it is pretty
stupid that the act of restoring one destroys the oldest one in
SYSBCKUP. If you start restoring them from the most recent (which makes
the most sense)-- the bottom two are gone before you get there!
