Unless Sun has gone insane - it will update just like all the previous ones
and will update your current version happily.
However - since Sun's download page is down for maintenance:
"Notice: We're Offline for System Upgrades"
It is difficult to confirm.
Make a system restore point, install the update, test it. Works - report
back and let us know - since the rest of us have to wait for the download to
become available.

"Update" is a relative term. All the Sun Java "updates" I have installed
left the old version on the disk. It had to be removed using Add/Remove
programs. Not much of an "update" if you ask me. But, typical of Sun - Ah,
I remember those days supporting Solaris, and SunOS before that. Typical.
You'd think they would have learned something about user friendliness after
all these years LOL.

Same here. I routinely uninstall the older version before installing the
newer one.

PA Bear, appreciate your post regarding Java updates, but I need some
additional help. In my installed program list in Control Panel, I have three
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Updates, 2,4 and 6. Also, I have two Java 2
Runtime Environments, SE v1.42_03 and _06. Am I to remove all of these, just
the three J2SE entries, or just the Java 2 Runtime Environment entries?
TIA
Larry

I have java 1.5.0_06-b05. When I open the java control panel and try to
update, I get the message that I have the latest version of java. Do I have
to go to the jave site to update?

Sun Java has released update 7.
Can that update be installed on top of the old version 6, or does that
version have to be removed first?

I would be surprised to learn that Sun did not include that information on
their website.
