Do NOT summarize an error message.
Do NOT describe an error message.
Do NOT paraphrase an error message.
Do NOT truncate an error message.
Show the ENTIRE error message (munge out your username).

Look in Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, General. Is the e-mail
address correct and if present is the reply to address correct?

Subject 'test', Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net',
Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.1.0 Authentication required', Port:
587, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC78"
FYI, we have tried with the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication"
box checked in both the Server tab of the email Properties window, and in the
Outgoing Mail Server menu. After checking those boxes, we rebooted, and
still couldn't send email.

It would appear that the sender is not directly connected to his/her mail
server.
