Yes, fairs fair, I should have kept the 'slap' low-key,, my bad.
Now, what are you refering to when saying 're-instal Avast? I have no
problem with Avast at all,, why would I want to reinstal it?
Did I miss something?

Radiation Alert..... PCR definately been exposed. I wouldnt touch
I/E with a barge-pole, or your pole, or with the bumper on my car,, I
think your problem lies there. Dont you have F/F running? My Avast
updates when I wake each day and connect to the internet,, only takes
about 3 minutes, and even thats hard to tell because its all done in the
back-ground. What I usually do pcr, is, connect, have a sip of coffee
that I just made, then have another, and before you know it, Avast pops
up saying it has updated all the latest updates.
Methinks I/E is your problem. And, if I am anxious to get somewhere
after I first connect, I simply go there (whether mail room, or using
f/f, and I dont notice any conflicts or slow-downs at all.. all things
motor on with ease.)
Btw, what speed do you get using your dial-up? I have a 'string' in my
modem settings that gives me 44,000bps,, I have had it up to 52,000 with
no problems, but I leave it at the above simply because it seems to like
it. I can download any www site with ease, and jpg's and movies from
n/g's with no problems at all. And if a movie is too large for my 5
hour connection, then when I reconnect in the morning, my 'Star Download
Manager' simply picks up from where it left off and continues.
(This is the reason I use only the version of f/f that I do,, it is the
last one that has support for my Download Manager, and I wouldnt trade
that for anything.)
(all of this while Avast is updating too.)
Got to admit, I can recommend 'Epox' as a Motherboard and the AMD 1.33GH
chip/cpu with via........ Have had the computer for 8-9 years and
never had a problem in that regard. (virus's being a diff' area.)

To me, you are like f/f,, ever reliable and faithful,, no complaints here.
Hey, wanna hear something funny? (too bad, here it comes anyway.)
When you said above "so far, so good", it reminded me of when I was on a
game show here,, 'wheel of fortune'. I won that day and got to try to
solve the 'major prize' puzzle,, it was 'so far, so good',, guess
what dummy me said?? i said, "so bad, so good". that cost me a $5,000
lounge suite. (not to worry though, I stayed on winning for another 4
days, and picked up the latest 'major' they were offering,, a trip to
Fiji for two for 3 weeks, all xpenses paid, including ALL meals,, I
came home very fat,, satisfied, but fat.)
I know this isnt the place to say these things, but I hope others in the
group will overlook it, and take it as light-hearted.
(is anyone other than you me and meb bothering with this thread anyway?)

much in it anyway,,, 15 entries only.
Off to bed, will keep you posted.
I'll look through your other posts & do some Googling.

I meant his writings can be found there, but I think BlitzenZeus is long
gone from there. But the thread is well-worth study, which I have yet to

Hello PCR....
No, I have not abandoned thread, and you will laugh when you hear
something that has taken up so much of my time lately.... I am actually
helping someone 'fix' a virus/computer problem they have.. (dont
screech, because I know you will, its a *&T(Y*^F* xp problem. A lady
who has 17yr old daughter called me to say that her daughter was in
tears because she couldnt get on with her school studies because 'word'
would not work..... I loaded on Spybot and it found 23 dramas... need I
say more.... so, lets get back to me.
PCR,, I have read all you have just said, and finally I can get back to
'my' dramas.
Give me a day or so from this post to examine and provide the info you
need.
I also posted a new post regarding a problem I am having with my other
computer, one that I am trying to sort of build... but those posts
were done quickly, and not given much time as I would rather dedicate my
time in this thread.
(soon, I might be able to vacuum my cubby... but am tripping over wires
everywhere.)

Here is one of the things you wanted::::
";
; Scanreg.ini for making system backups.
;
;Registry backup is skipped altogether if this is set to 0
Backup=1
;Registry automatic optimization is skipped if this is set to 0
Optimize=1
ScanregVersion=0.0001
MaxBackupCopies=5
;Backup directory where the cabs are stored is
; <windir>\sysbckup by default. Value below overrides it.
; It must be a full path. ex. c:\tmp\backup
;
BackupDirectory=
; Additional system files to backup into cab as follows:
; Filenames are separated by ','
; dir code can be:
; 10 : windir (ex. c:\windows)
; 11 : system dir (ex. c:\windows\system)
; 30 : boot dir (ex. c:\)
; 31 : boot host dir (ex. c:\)
;
;Files=[dir code,]file1,file2,file3
;Files=[dir code,]file1,file2,file3
This file is exactly as I found it 10 minutes after posting prior, it
seems to be fine... ?
Now for something that I really am not 100% sure about.
Remember I said all things regarding my connection were fine again? and
that I can now be on the net no matter what? well, I'm not sure but I
think i got booted off again today,, but wont go into panic mode,
because we have had some wild weathere here in last 36 hours, but it has
acted just like before.

Yep. That looks fine to me, looks just like mine. Did you get a new
Registry on your latest boot & did the 1-29-2007 backup drop off? If so,
you are fine. Otherwise, check the rest of it in my post.

Yea, don't panic. Occasional, widely spread connectivity problems can be
ignored. Maybe the ISP had a hiccup due to prohibition is over.
No -- I won't laugh -- very good of you to help that schoolgirl. Spread
your new-found knowlege instead of viruses. I'm still here & will keep

Help a school girl,,,,, nay sire; me first. (let her fix her own
computer!!)
52%.. is much better odds than I get buying xlotto tickets, so I'll
stick with you. (I did win $67 this week tho', or should I say, last
thursday.)
Guess I'll say 'hi' here at this end of the post PCR. I dont think
anyone else is interested, so maybe I can ask you a couple more questions.
But, first, an update.... (plz put on earmuffs and cover your eyes while
you read, cos' you not going to like it.) No, I havent yet put back on
Kerio. (eeeeeek) And before I do, (because I have been doing lots of
other things and reading etc) can you tell me anything about
"NetStat" via Dos? Especially "Netstat -a"? (as you can guess, I am
trying to learn more, and I can across 'netstat'. Can you help me to
'know' or 'tell' if I have someone 'listening' on my Ports? (and I am
Still trying to understand 'ports', have downloaded so much reading
material about them, I even got one that shows so many Ports that I
think I'm in Sydney Harbour working for the Dockers Union!! (ha ha.)
Is this sort of knowledge helpful in regard to us talking about a
Firewall? No kidding PCR, I have never had a firewall, and have had
super-minimal problems with virus's... have I just been lucky?
Btw, has anyone told you lately that you are 'great', (oil oil), but
seriously, you just seem to be a guy like me who doesnt want to move
away from 98, and especially 98SE. I know others play games and have
dual processors, (and, no, I dont understand half of that stuff) so it
is easy for me to relate to your posts. (well, sorta anyway.)
As you may/probably already know, I have had some other issues, and
posted them in other groups, (have learned my lesson about 'netiquite'
and posting in appropiate groups etc.) I think they have been dealt
with but I am also still trying to get used to using Mozilla T/bird as a
reader.... and in fact, there is an issue in itself if you are
interested in helping.... Somehow, after installing this newsreader, I
cant even d/load normal n/g's via my own isp;,, I 'think' it has
something to do with 'outlook xpress' and the fact that I had/have
xproxy installed and T/bird wont give me isp's groups because of it,,
but I'll leave that there.
Btw,, are we totally 12 hours out of whack?
Hope I'm not down to 51% yet, and you get this post.

Connections screen -- but Kerio is a ton better! Kerio shows names &
more. Keep reading, & -- as soon as ready -- start a new thread about
Kerio. It shouldn't be too hard to get it started. Then, the fine tuning
begins. I'm not perfectly knowledgeable on Internet protocols & Kerio
rules, myself -- but am willing to give it yet another big, big try!
It's worth it!
C:\>NetStat /?
Displays protocol statistics and current TCP/IP network connections.
NETSTAT [-a] [-e] [-n] [-s] [-p proto] [-r] [interval]
-a Displays all connections and listening ports.
-e Displays Ethernet statistics. This may be combined with
the -s
option.
-n Displays addresses and port numbers in numerical form.
-p proto Shows connections for the protocol specified by proto; proto
may be TCP or UDP. If used with the -s option to display
per-protocol statistics, proto may be TCP, UDP, or IP.
-r Displays the routing table.
-s Displays per-protocol statistics. By default, statistics
are
shown for TCP, UDP and IP; the -p option may be used to
specify
a subset of the default.
interval Redisplays selected statistics, pausing interval seconds
between each display. Press CTRL+C to stop redisplaying
statistics. If omitted, netstat will print the current
configuration information once.

You've made my head swell, but with enough oil on top still to fit in my
hat.

I'm still using IE6/OE6. You'll need to go through Mozilla FAQs for help
on that, or ask in a new thread for a Mozilla user to see. I don't know,
but it may be tougher to access MS NG's through Mozilla.

You are +0930; I am -0400 in regard to Greenwich Mean Time, looks like.

Nope.

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
Should things get worse after this,
