Post subject: I could use some advice
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>win2000>dns (more info?)

Hi All
Our dns is managed by AT&T (our T1 provider).
Our Websites are hosted by another company.
We have an internal exchange server.
Everything is working fine except:
We have a contact form on our website that should send email for
catalog requests, but it won't.
Our A record points to the website company. When their server tries to
send it thinks it's going internal (to them) and won't go. For some
reason their server isnt looking at the mx record at AT&T.
Any insight?
Thank you
Dave

The A record points to the website (hosting) company? You mean the 'www'
record? That shouldn't have anything to do with the MX record. Is the
hosting company also hosting DNS for you? If the hosting company is hosting
it for you as well, and they don't have an MX record for your domain, then
they will not be able to resolve your domain's MX record because they do not
have an MX record created.

At ATT's DNS servers, is your MX record pointed to the outside address of
your firewall?

Do you have access to the web server, such as is it a dedicated web server
for your company, or is it virtual hosting - meaning your website is one of
a thousand other sites on their server and you only have access to your
website control panel or whatever they call it?

If you do not have physical access to it, try to find out if they are also
offering DNS hosting for you. If they are, you'll also need to create an MX
record.

Your domain name as configured in your post is enDOTcom. Can I assume that
is your domain name? If it is, the MX record points to voyager.net's mail
servers. Is that your hosting company?

If not, can you post the actual domain name so we can run some tests to see
what is actually going on for you. It helps to reduce the questions and
assumptions.
