Post subject: Wrong number of new messages Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>inetexplorer>ie6_outlookexpress (more info?)
I have outlook express 6 and down in the right hand corner it reports the
number of new messages that I have. But the problem is that it's reporting 5
times the amount of new e-mails I really have. Any clues on how to fix
this???

*Left* hand corner? While in the Inbox: View | Current view. Make sure: Show
All Messages is checked and nothing else. Have you checked Deleted Items and
any other folder such as a Junk folder? A Blocked Sender message that goes
to Deleted Items is still considered a new message.
If still no joy:
You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main
Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it.
If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old
identity and delete it.

I get this from time to time. I have queried it on this NG and the reply is
along the lines of there is a mismatch between your computer and the server
of the number of unread items. I find this resolves itself in due course.
