Windows ME

I am agreed to get a computer running for a friend. The computer is a Compac
running Windows ME that was is infested with spyware trojans viruses. I
downloaded Avast and eliminated a bunch of stuff but it was still crashing
quite a bit. I installed spybot and it would run for a while then crash. I
found a suspect file in the windows directory, I forget what the name of it
actually is and moved it to a folder I created and named Pat's on the C drive
using windows explorer. Now the computer starts and shows a blue screen with
the start button and a few desktop icons IE, RecycleBin, etc. The problem is
the start button or none of the icons will work, Please help before she finds
out what I did to her computer.
