I am still using a PC with Windows Me, therefore using the highest upgrade
you can have for Windows Media Player......version 9. I downloaded a movie
from a website by saving it to a file. When I try to play it, I always get a
message box saying " Microsoft Windows Media Player has encountered a problem
and needs to close". The error box asks if I want to report it, which does
no good. It has a "more information" to click on for technical information
about the report, but all it says is "Exception Report" and "Code" -
0xc0000005 which I cannot find anywhere to explain what it means. Can anyone
help me out with this and tell me why this happened?

The error 0xc0000005 could mean that the WMP library has become corrupted
and needs to be rebuilt. See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary.
You might also want to check that you have the most recent version of the
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) for Win Me which is MDAC 2.8 SP1
which can be downloaded from
http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/a/a/4aafff19-9d21-4d35-ae81-0...8dcbbbf

Another possible reason for your problem is that you don't have the
correct codec installed to play the file you downloaded although in that
case I would have expected a different error.
