Hi,
Does Windows NT 4.0 Server have a firewall software as standard?
I am currently playing with a Dell Power Edge 2900 with Windows Server
2003 which comes with windows firewall, but not initially enabled.
I needed to start the ICS service to get it going.
I also have some old Windows NT servers at customer sites, and I
cannot remember if they have the Windows Firewall installed/enabled. I
don't remember having to start a service on NT so I want to know if I
should start it manually or not.
The NT servers in question are two hours drive away, and I don't want
to drive there just for this.

Hi Control Freq,
John is correct, no version of NT4 or win2k included an 'inbuilt'
firewall. There is nothing stopping you from adding a third party
programme to perform this task however - have a search of the net -
there are several on offer.
Frankly however, if security and access control are critical in your
situation, I would STRONGLY recommend an external 'hardware' solution to
control 'net connectivity. 'Internal' firewalls I think are a waste of
time and only promote a false sense of security.
