Post subject: Windows 95 VXD Files
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>win95>setup (more info?)

While troubleshooting a friends computer (Compaq Presario 4508) I decided to
reload Windows 95. I discovered that the CD drive (Goldstar CRD-8160B) was
not being recognized. I was able to load the CD driver, but still no
recognition. While running Windows 95 setup several messages regarding VXD
files. These messages notify the user that a newer version of the file(s) is
loaded and prompt the user not to overwrite with the older version. For the
seven(7) VXD files identified I OK'd the use of the newer files. It appears
that the setup was successful. Now, there is good news and bad news. The good
news: it appears that the CD drive is now recognized. The bad news: Windows
95 will not load.

How do I overcome this problem??????????

Try running Windows setup with the "/d" and "/p f" switches.

setup /d /p f
