Post subject: Windows 2000 will not bootup, Add to elertz

Computer will not bootup. When I turn on computer it begins to show that it is bootingup by the Windows screen appearting the the screen goes black, and my CD drive and burn drive lights are on. Also, it cn not be turned off. So, I pulled the plug in the back of the computer. Waited a few minutes plug it in to power, then turn on the computer. This seems to work, as you can see.

When it finally goes into bootup mode the DOS scree appears and it begins a check disk: C:\WINNT\system 32\CHKDISK.exe. In the text it mentions that there are some irregularities.

Prior to this dilemma I had been getting Word document icons on my desktop. These were not "shortcuts." I check their "properties" and found that they were unknown applications. I checked my "File and Folders" search, and they were not in any file or folder. So, I removed them!

Before this happened I was getting a lot of DLL files appear on my desktop. Some were in other folders and some were nowhere to be found. I removed from my desktop those that were not in any search that I had made, or were in already in a folder.

Lastly, I have run 3 virus checks on all file and folders in 3 days with no mention of any virus.

I am sure I have done something stupid, but my question is how can I get my computer back into normal operating mode?
