Hi,

I have an Asus P4P800SE motherboard which has four RAM slots with max
available quoted in the manual of 4 Gigabytes.

I have 2 GBs already, would W2K Pro handle another 1 or 2 GBs?

Hello kleefarr,

Windows Professional can handle up to 4GB RAM, but you will only see a max
of 3.2 to 3.5 GB available which is by design in 32bit OS.

Thanks for that Meinolf.

Am I correct in thinking (recall having read something somewhere) that it's
possible to increase the amount detected by the OS?

The "missing" memory between 3.whatever and 4 is occupied by hardware
addresses. Remove the hardware and more memory will be used. Of course
some hardware will always be needed. Pro is limited to 4 GB, you need to
go to a Server version for past 4.

Thanks Bob I.

So there would be no harm in adding the extra 2GBs at some point.
I do a bit of video editing and think the extra would come in handy.

It's only money! <grin> That's the only issue. You will generally end up
some where between 3.2 and 3.5 but each hardware configuration is
unique. You're welcome, and have a great day.

Hello kleefarr,

No, maybe you think about using /PAE switch, but this is not available with
2000 pro.

Best regards
