I'd check with the drive maker to be sure. The one site I checked showed XP
and W2K compatibility.

should I'm currently running 98se on a 160gig maxtor SATA
and unlike windows xp no drivers had to be loaded during the install
oh, yes i do have it split into 2 80gig partitions to avoid the 48bit addressing problem

The FDISK and Format for 98 inherantly doesn't like large drives.
(above 40 gigs....or so)
I got around this limitation a long time ago by always using my Windows ME boot disk when I'm setting up a new drive.
I used it when I set up my current drive,,,a Maxtor 160 gig SATA drive.
Once the drive is partitioned and formatted, it seemingly makes no difference what OS is installed on it.
If you'd like a copy of my Win-ME boot disk, you can get it Here.
Just download "wnMEboot.exe" and run it ...... it will create a boot floppy for you.
It's all menu driven and makes a great tool for the nube or Sr. Tech.
If you use FDISK to partition your hard drive (recommended) be sure to also use FDISK to make your first partition the BOOT partition, or your OS will load just fine but will NEVER boot up your PC.
(been there and done that)
