I've been forced to drag my old Win 95 out of the dust for a bit and was
wondering if there are any (preferably free) firewalls that still work with
it. I've got Sygate 5.6 that appears to be working but the "Close Program"
dialog box shows SMC not responding so I'm not sure what I've got. Don't
plan on being on this thing for long so I really don't want to take the time
to upgrade operating systems.

Since you will only be using the machine temporarily
just keep the firewall you have.
Since you would really not want to turn it off, I doubt if it matters that
it hangs when you shut the application down

Otherwise look at the security section here

Agnitum Outpost ver. 1, free, works like a charm, but you have
to set it up a little bit. Tends to crash when you shut down but
not always and does no harm when it does.

For '98SElite, Kerio version 2.1.5 seems to be working fine for me. You
have to set it up a bit, but that applies to any firewall.

I know you said '95, but IME any system capable of running '95 can
manage '98 once you've applied 98lite, which strips the essential things
like web desktop and graduated colour title bars, while still giving you
most of the advantages of '98 (such as less fiddly USB support).

Having said that, I think the old Kerio would probably run fine on '95
anyway.
