Hi,
The last while I have been having issues with some attachments sent to some
contacts. When they get them from me all they see is jumbled code in the
body of the email. I use outlook express 6.00.299.1280 (sp2) on XP Pro sp2.
For example when sending a PDF attachment to a gmail contact -always
mangled- ALWAYS. If I go into my hotmail account and send same PDF to gmail
contact -no problem.
Same happens sporadically with non-gmail contacts and ones I have sent
attachments to with no problems for years.

Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Advanced, uncheck the Break apart
option.
If that's not the problem, make sure that your anti-virus program is NOT
scanning Outgoing mail. With some anti-virus (and anti-spam) programs,
simply disabling the e-mail scanning function doesn't really disable it.
It simply tells the program not to flag any messages. It still
processes all the messages and may still cause send/receive problems.
What you may need to do is uninstall the anti-virus program, then
reinstall it using a custom install option and unselect the e-mail
scanning component for installation.

If you send or Forward one of these messages with an attachment to yourself,
do you see the same thing?
Are you sending from the Hotmail account via OE or the webpage?

Hi Robear, Michael
No, the same message with attachment forwarded to me is OK.
No, the hotmail account is not sent through OE Express but through the
web interface.
Also the breakapart option referred to by Michael in account, tools,
options, advanced was unchecked.
I use AVG free edition, which scans incoming emails, but scan outgoing is
unchecked.
Called Sympatico tech support and they said it had nothing to do with their
server settings, ( of course).
Thanks...

Entirely disable the Email Scanning component of AVG Free. (You may need to
do a custom reinstall and opt out of installing this component to make
Security Center and AVG happy.)
If the behavior persists and since you're not seeing the behavior, try
sending such messages in Plain Text (vs RichText/HTML) format. And/or your
correspondents might need to configure IE as their default browser.
