Post subject: Printin Problems Add to elertz
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>win98>gen_discussion, others (more info?)

Previously in microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser, I wrote:

IŽm having printing problems specifically with IE6, so I decided to
re-install it from scratch hoping to the problem solved. When I try to
re-install IE, I get this message (my system is in Brazilian Portuguese so
IŽll try to translate):The install process canŽt download missing files
using a not mapped UNC path with drive letters...

Does anybody how I can resolve this matter?
Thanks!

-------

Well I managed to re-install IE6 in the computer (Win98SE by the way) and
the problem is still occuring. So the guys thought I should cross-post this
problem to these two discussion groups (win8.gen_discussion and
win98.prinitn). So I gave it a shot.

Anybody out there can help me with a solution?
Thank you!

From that thread:

Re-installed IE6 because of printer problem, temporarily fixed or did not
fix printing problem.

PaBear suggested:

Given the history of this thread, I would suspect that a printer-related
Add-on (Tools > Manage add-ons) is causing the problem (e.g., your installed
printer software might not be Win9x-compatible).

Try beginning a new thread about the issue in this newsgroup:
microsoft.public.win98.printing

Tip: That's not a very busy newsgroup anymore. I'd recommend crossposting
to microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion newsgroup, too.

PA Bear
------------

Pa's suggestion may be the case, so how about informing us concerning what
the printer is [make and model] and software version being used.

Did the printer [from within IE] work before and suddenly quit?

If so, try re-installing the printer software.

I see in the original thread you said: "When I send a printing Job, IE6
closes abrutply, failing to trigger the prinitng job", at Bear's urging.
Too bad the overinstall of IE he suggested did not work.

(a) As MEB asked, did the printer ever work with IE?
(b) Does it happen no matter what site IE is at?
(c) What happens when you just select Print Preview...?...
http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/20/1/Print-Preview-displays-html...de-inst
Maybe try the cure for that.
(d) Does printing work well with other apps, say Notepad?
(e) Do you have any BHOs (Browser Helper Objects) installed?

Maybe, yea, try reinstalling the printer, as MEB said, as it may need to
put something into the Registry relating to the printer.

To see whether you have a BHO...

http://www.definitivesolutions.com/ 's BHODemon
This one was free last I knew. It renames the BHO executable & can
"undo" that..

http://www.pcmag.com/ 's BHOCop removes a BHO's Registry entries & can
"undo" that. It found a Browser Helper Object called Wavehelper Class,
created by "Wavetop", that was building a monstrosity of an error log
called "Logit.txt" in here. "START button, Find, F/F, Logit.txt"-- see
one?

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/toolbarcop.htm
Freeware ToolbarCop also can remove "unwanted Toolbands, Toolbar icons
and Browser Helper Objects". The site says XP-- but the version 3.4
offered seems to be working fine in my Win98!

But it /did/ work, just not for very long =>
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.i...browser
(26 March), then
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.i...browser
(28 March).

IŽll look in all these options and try it out.
And IŽll return to tell about the overcome (failure or success).
Thanks!

Yes. Keep us informed. Also...

Did it work for a while after you did that over-install of IE? For how
long? Can you recall what you did before it failed again?

| Thanks!

You are welcome.

| But it /did/ work, just not for very long =>

The problem re-started. I was able to reinstall Internet
Explorer but the problem is occuring again."

Hmmm... I was interpreting that to mean the process of the over-install
of IE worked, but the problem of printing was still there. However, it
could well be as you say-- that the printing problem went & returned.

Then-- what was done in the interim, if anything?
