Which one is most suitable for WinMe and Win98
UK versions
Advice appreciated.

Number 2 and 3 are the same. So, 2 or 3. You should still install the Java
Runtime - assuming you want to use Java - but I doubt if the old version
that runs in 9x is included and you should get it seperately (which is
better anyway), so the extra size of 1 is probably just a waste of time and
disk space (on 9x). A Release Candidate - i.e. 4 - is very rarely 'most
suitable' except by pure luck and you should only go for that if you enjoy
beta testing.

No problem.
And incidentally, though perhaps you already know, but I installed OO
2.4.1 (being the version I had archived) in 98SE tonight and it included
JRE-6u4. Knowing that it is now on 6u7, I ran the Control Panel Updater.
It offered update 7, so I accepted. But the installation wouldn't
complete. So I plugged in my thumb drive (with priority software on),
which had update 7 on, and ran it from this already downloaded and
verified copy and it too failed at the same point. So I guess JRE-6u7
doesn't install on 9x - but it'd be nice if the installer said so at the
beginning!
Seeing as how old version of JRE are full of security vulnerabilities,
personally I don't think using Java is wise in 9x anymore.

See if running without Java works for you, if it does there's no need to
download it I never had it on my WinME machine or my XP and if I came across
anywhere that wanted it usually it was not important enough to make me want
to install it, it's up to you though what you decide to do.
If you do decide to have Java make sure you get the latest version for your
OS from the official site.
