Post subject: NetBIOS over TCPIP
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>win2000>networking, others (more info?)

Hi.

I have a Win2K LAN with two cabled pcs and one wireless, and internet
via a router. Up until two weeks ago my LAN function was good; however,
now PC1 (cabled) can't see the other two (cabled and wireless), and
neither of the other two can see PC1. Despite my efforts to enable it
(via TCPIP properties), ipconfig at command line still reports that
NetBIOS over TCPIP is disabled.

What might explain this? What else might explain why one pc has lost
sight of the other pc's? I've reconfigured network stuff, rebooted,
etc. Might I have a registry entry that needs reconfiguration? How can
I make ipconfig not report disabled NetBIOS?

Thanks,
-jc

You go to the nics properties, tcp/ip properties/wins tab and enable netbios
over tcp/ip

Thanks for the lead. I have done that, via Network Connections in
Control Panel. I've tried both options: Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP and
Use NetBIOS setting from DHCP server, but to no avail. I haven't,
though, changed anything under my NIC settings in Device Manager.

Thanks,
-jc

in Device Manager go to View - check Show Hidden Devices, go to Non-Plug and
Play Drivers, and check Netbios over Tcpip

Thanks, Andrei.
I've just checked it, and Netbios over Tcpip is enabled. It was set to
manual, so I changed it to automatic. Netbios is still disabled,
though, per the ipconfig feedback.
