Post subject: Move a NIC card driver from old HD to new one Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsnt>setup (more info?)
Hello All,
I have just installed a new HD on my gateway laptop, before doing so i
have coppied the NIC card driver from the old HD located at:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\MN120-51. Then i tried moving it to the
same location in the new HD. All i have done was copy the file into
the drivers location under system32 folder in the WINDOWS folder. With
all this being said when i plug the NIC card in the laptop nothing
happens the computer still can not sees the card but do not recognize
the driver for it. I have tried to go through the microsoft wozard for
installing the drive and pointing it into the driver file but nothing
happens. I would appreciate any help since i could not find the driver
online.

NIC card driver alone does nothing. You need to tell system that this driver
is here. To do this , you need at least your NIC card .inf file too. Or you
need to "install" this driver manually, but I doubt you can do this with
your current experience level (this means you need to add/modify some keys
in windows registry and fill correct values to them). Try to find NIC card
installation media or driver installation pack from manufacturer web site.
Note that some computer manufacturers are placing copy of installation media
to disk, usually as subfolders in DRIVER or INSTALL trees.
As last resort only - Windows is saving used .inf files, so you will be
probably able to find it, but it can be useless without some editing in case
there are installation archives used instead of plain files.
