1.4 Ghz Pentium 4 - Windows 98 standard

Computer goes into standby and will seem to resume, however monitor stays in
low power mode. Also mouse will not resume computer from standby.

I'm reconfiguring an old cpu with no budget
All hardware have updated drivers and monitor is energy star.
Thanks for any suggestions

Check the computer or motherboard manufacturer's site for an updated BIOS.
Make sure that you follow all directions exactly and backup any important
files that you have before flashing the BIOS.

An added thought for Patty's suggestion. A BIOS update should only be done
if the PC is operating off of an uninterrupted power supply. Having a
"burp" in the electrical flow can ruin a BIOS.

Thanks to all.
BIOS was (successfully) flashed with the latest available update with no
change to monitor behavior.

Is there another monitor in the house or one that you can use to test with
to see if this is a problem with the monitor or with the computer?

Also, make sure that you don't have power management enabled both in the
BIOS and in Windows.

See this earlier posting from Ron & Walter Clayton:

Thanks PattyL,
I think you hit the nail!
I have power management enabled both in the bios and in windows. I will try
disabling in the BIOS when I get back to it.

Try restarting your computer.
While it is restarting keep pushing the F8 key.
It will give you several options to pick from.
Try going to "Last known good configuration"
Enter and see if that works.
