Have posted this before on the WMP section but no luck. Hope Noel Paton
reads as he always seems to make sense!
Having reformatted C: and reinstalled win ME, all updated to 11 Nov (reasons
for this are too dull to explain). When WMP 9 plays MP3 files the first 3 -
5 seconds are subject to large slow pitch variation - WOW as it called, like
a tape slowing down. The MP3s are okay as a) they played fine under WMP9
before the reinstall and b) they still play fine under Creative or Real
player. Copy the MP3s to another PC and they are fine with that PCs WMP9.
Have reinstalled WMP today - no difference. What ever the problem is it
relates to the installation on this PC and of course it is impossible to
unistall MP3 (thanks Bill!) so the reinstall may not have been that clean.
All sound drivers etc updated. Creative SB Live 5.1 card.
WMP9 aint great but it looks pretty so I would like to keep using it...

Have now solved this thanks to post as follows from zachd
You have the file 'ctmp3.acm' on your system. Rename that file and things
should work fine again.
