Post subject: Lost my Generic Text Printer Installation Archived from groups: microsoft>public>win2000>general (more info?)
Hello. I was having trouble setting my default printer to something else
besides the Generic Text Printer. I finally got my normal printer installed
and tried to switch the default printer to that and away from the Generic
Text Printer but it just would not work. So I decided to "delete" the
Generic Text Printer and that is when the troubles began.
It turns out I should have "uninstalled" the Generic Text Printer. As it is
I wanted to put the Generic Text Printer back in but now it will not
install. I get an error. And so it will not appear in Printers off the
Control Panel. So now I am stuck.
Is there a way to manually uninstall the Generic Text Printer? Maybe if I do
that at least partially remove some of its installation information from the
registry or break the installation in some manner I may be able to install
it again? Thanks.

Exactly what error do you get when you use the Add Printers dialog to
create a new print queue using the Generic/Text Only printer driver?

Open the Print Server Properties, Driver tab, and have your way with the
Generic Text printer driver. "Add, Remove, Replace"

It says at the end of the Wizrd "There was an error. Hardware did not
install." Believe me if it said something meaningful I would have told you.
Thanks though.

Well there we go. All it had there was the ability for me to Remove the
Generic Print drivers which is what I did. Unfourtunately when I tried to
install it again this time I got no error but nothing new appeared in the
list of Printers. Looks like I hosed that. Thanks anyway.
