I have NT Workstation 4.0 and have been trying to find where one can download
the full setup/install files for Explorer 6 SP1 - I have the install for
Windows 98, but it tells me that when I try to run the installer it will not
run under NT 4.0 for some strange reason. I have tried scouring the
Microsoft site and even the old FTP archives at ftp.microsoft.com - could not
find the installer (this is for an offline computer) that does not have
dialup or network access to the internet.

Need a better description of your OS. If you don't have the NT4sp6a
your symptom would be understandable without any diagnostics.

Hi Robert.
To the OP;
This used to work but I don't have a way to confirm it still does so let us
know.

Dave,
I think that that is just the ie6setup.exe unless they have significantly improved the UI
since I last used it. E.g., in order to do the Download Only you have to do some of the
command line trickery described here:
<title>Download-only installation of Internet Explorer 6.0, Internet Explorer 5.5, or Internet Explorer 5.1 in Windows XP or in
Windows 2000</title>
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257249
or minimally, executing ie6setup.exe in its own otherwise empty directory with the /D switch:
ie6setup.exe /C:"ie6wzd.exe /D:1"
That simplifcation with its implied target avoids all the complexity and ambiguity
about the /s: switch and its placeholder.
However, the last time I tried it (several years ago) they were trying to update parts
of the downloading OS at the same time! (Oops.) That's one of the reasons I suggested
getting a CD... ; ) The main reason though is that the downloaded copy will still try to find
an network connection in order to validate the downloaded components. Users can
ignore such prompts but doing it from a CD is much simpler. Besides, if I'm not mistaken
the CD contains a copy of NT4sp6a (e.g. in the same way that the IE4 CD used to contain
a copy of NT4sp3 <w>) so they could use it as part of their OS install package.

Yes, the link is just the setup but the steps after running setup used to
allow one to download complete installation packages for one or more
operating systems. Unfortunately I don't have anything handy right now to
test with.
