Intermittent Group policy application at startup
I am working with a native Windows 2000 Active Directory. We are using
an OU level GP to make changes to the stations at startup. Example:
Registry changes for DNS search order, IE proxy setting, and updates to
programs, etc.
The issue is some of the stations are not applying the changes while
most do. I have found that the ones that are not updating usually have
either been off for a while (several months) or not turned off or
restarted for a while. We have a small number of users on this domain
(>10) though we have over 1500 computers in this domain. I have reset
accounts to no avail, but if I rename the computer the system works
normally. These systems have a specific function (testing and internet
access) and are separate forest from the main company forest.
It seems that the systems are unable to see the domain at the machine
level, yet are able to log in (possibly with cashed info).

Hello bseidel52,
Normally the machine account resets it's password after 30 days. So this
can be the reason that not all is working properly after long time of disconnection
form the domain.
You can use netdom according to this:
netdom reset computername /domain:mydomain.com
If you use the RESET ACCOUNT in AD jo have to rejoin the computer to the
domain, because this breaks the computer connection to the domain.
