I am trying to re-install W95 form diskettes on an old 486 DX 2 computer,
that I wish to use for simple controling purposes. However it seems, that the
VFD.VXD file in de cabinet Win95_03.cab is corrupted. It dos neither want to
install, nor can I extract and copy it with extract.exe. On the internet I
can only find sources where I can get this small file for an unreasonable
ammount of money. Does anybody know a free source or does anybody have a copy
of this file?

Hallo Alan,
Thank you very much for your help. On my computer the file downloaded as a
VFD.VXD (not .txt!). I will try to install it tomorrow on the old machine and
see if it works. Getting the file to the old machine is rather complicated.
It does not have a networking connection nor USB port and my present Desktop
does not have a floppy. So I will need to burn this small file on a CD-RW to
get it transferred. Will let you know what happens. Again many thanks.
Greeting,
Dave

It took me a while to find some time around the Newyear. Although the file
downloaded as a VFD.VXD and seemed to have the right size, it did not work
after installation in the Systems and/or VMM32 directory. Even after doing
the things as described in KB150164 (VFBACKUP could not load VFD.VXD) I kept
getting the same error message. Probably this could have to do with language
or version incompatibillities? To make a long story short, I borrowed an old
W98 CD Rom from my neighbour and installed it without problems. That is to
say, there isnot much speed left in this old 486 machine, but I can live with
that. Again thank you very much for your support and I think, that we have to
live with the fact, that some problems are beyond solving.
Greetings,
Dave
