Did you install the latest service pack *before* you have installed the display
driver?

I know nothing about this specific configuration but try to reapply latest
servicepack just before and also just after display driver installation (in
this case before reboot!). Some installation packages are able to mess
critical system files during installation. They usually need to install some
not-yet-installed system component and they are installing original
(build-in) versions of them. If this component is critical (and display
driver IS) and if it is not able to work with rest of system due servicepack
changes, computer may constantly hang. Reapplying SP just after
installation of critical driver can solve OS critical files version mishmash
problems (which is possible cause of on-boot rebooting).

luck

George
