Post subject: Import same group policy into 24 stand alone servers Archived from groups: microsoft>public>win2000>group_policy (more info?)
I have created a group policy that I need to distribute to 24 different stand
alone Windows 2000 servers at 24 different locations. I am looking for the
most effective way to do this. I have a test server that I have created the
group policy that I need to use, but how can I now take the group policy from
my test server and easily implement it on the 24 independant servers? All
servers are Windows 2000 with service pack 4 and I can remote desktop into
all of them.

Marcin, I appreciate the response, but the article you refered me to is for
system policies (unless I missed something). I am looking for info on group
policies. I have items that are not supported by the system policies that I
need to distribute. Things such as 'Local Computer Policy\Computer
Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Audi Policy'.

Clay
if your intention is to apply strictly computer Security Settings portion of
the group policy, then you can export/import configuration across multiple
systems using Local Security Settings, Security Configuration and Analysis,
or SecEdit command line utility (or directly from Group Policy Object
Editor).
System policy, in this case, allows you to emulate in non-domain
environments functionality available via group policies - which might or
might not be sufficient in your case...

Hi Clay,
With 2003 you can backup and restore Group policies via Group Policy
Management Console.
However, with 2000 that isn't possible.
Group Policies are stored in the SYSVOL container. I haven't had much luck
"copying" the sysvol container as it seems to just create a folder "linked"
directly to SYSVOL. However, you may be able to copy the folders from inside.
The big thing is going to be "importing" them into the other servers.
Personally I think it is just faster to write them down and then do them
manually.
