Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>inetexplorer>ie6>browser (more info?)

When surfing the internet I experience a lot of 'Internet Explorer has
encountered an error and needs to close. OS winxp pro I have tred to disable
add-ons one at a time and they we are crashing. I also uncheck enable third
party but I need it on to access my husband work website.
To list a few.....errors...... 95% of my errors are ws2_32.dll
Application error
Event ID 1000
faulting application iexplore.exe version 6.0.2900.5512 faulting module
unknown, version 0.0.0.0 fault address 0x03815f4d
or
Event 1001
fault bucket 848123328, 740529956

or
faulting application msimn.exe version 6.0.2900.5512 faulting module
ws2_32.dll version 5.1.2600.5512, fault address 0x00004cb8
or
faulting application iexplore.exe version 6.0.2900.5512 faulting module
ws2_32.dll version 5.1.2600.5512, fault address 0x00004cb7

also faulting module in wininet.dll and wsock32.dll ect....
I have reinstalled the OS and IE ie6 ie7 sp2 or sp3 all crash I have no
clue what is causing this. I don't have google or yahoo toolbar installed. I
do have hijackthis adware, spyware balster, spybot does fines:

Microsoft.Windows.Security.InternetExplorer: [SBI $A3433CBF] Settings
(Registry change, nothing done)

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1614895754-1935655697-725345543-1003\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN\iexplore.exe

is this something I should fix/remove?

I also have installed microsoft money, net nanny, flight simulator x deluxe,
(which use to crash/freeze on me), before I reinstalled OS and IE6, hasn't
crashed since.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does the above mean you're no longer having the problem?

Are you now running WinXP SP2 or WinXP SP3? IE6 or IE7?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)? Were any of these applications running in the background when you
installed SP3 and/or IE7?

Well this sounds a bit complicated lets try to break it down. The first
thing I would suggest is if you have a system restore point that is before
you added all these programs restore the computer to that time. That might
help. If there is no system restore point remove the programs that you added
through add remove programs in the control panel. The second thing is there
may be a corrupt file in your cache in Internet Explorer so go to tools,
options, delete, delete temporary, internet files, OK, delete cookies Ok and
clear history, OK. Then close IE and open it again. Keep disabling third
party add ons. Let me know if that helps.
Best Regards,
Kaja

If you're sure it's .not an add-on:
Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these
Web pages.
Help with malware:
All MS-MVP Sites.
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm
http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/darnit.html
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827315

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=27971
Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

PA Bear,
Sorry if I confused you. I'm running Winxp pro IE6 SP3 I use Norton
Antivirus no firewall except for MS and nothing was running in the background
while installing these programs. I installed OS, then sp2 and sp3. Just
trying to open IE loading to my homepage whdh.com I received and encounted
error fault bucket and going to mycheckfree.com another ws2_32.dll as listed
below, but not always.
What should I do about the " Microsoft.Windows.Security.InternetExplorer"
issue when running spybot search & destory?

Frank,
I will try the add-ons again and see what happens and go to those sites.

Kaja,
I have never been able to create a system restore point, everytime I
try it tells me it failed.

Thanks for your quick replies!

fault address 0x0550b73a I have enable flash now for my homepage and
WUWebcontrol for windows update and windows genuine. I just installed windows
defender and it didn't find anything. ugh! IE is exhausting me out. I'm
afraid to upgrade to IE7 after reading other people's problem. I'd like to

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these
Web pages.
Help with malware:
All MS-MVP Sites.

http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
