Post subject: Hotmail not in pull down list to set as default e-mail
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>inetexplorer>ie6>setup (more info?)

I have tried and tried to figure this out and can't. I want Hotmail to be my
default e-mail client. I have already went to IE, options, programs, e-mail
default, but Hotmail is not in the pull-down list to choose. I have tried
adding it through Outlook Express, but since I am on an ethernet connection,
not sure what the outgoing and incoming mail server is that I need to put in
there. Any help on how to make Hotmail my default mail program would be
appreciated. I have spent about 5 hours today trying to figure it out, and
still can't. What I want to do is when I click on an e-mail address from a
web page, to send an e-mail, that it sends from my Hotmail. It is sending
from my yahoo. Thanks!

Unless you have had your Hotmail account for several years,
or you pay for the deluxe service, Hotmail no longer is
usable with Outlook Express. Since Hotmail is web-based you
can't set it as the default email. If your Hotmail account
will work with Outlook Express, you can set the default
account in Outlook Express to be a Hotmail account.

Yep, I've had my hotmail account for over 10 years. A friend of mine was
telling me to pick it in the pull-down under internet explorer options,
because he has hotmail as an option to chose and he can just click on it and
set it as his e-mail default. Hotmail isn't in my pull-down under IE.

I use Outlook Express for my Hotmail and use Hotmail as my
default email. If I select "send to email" it opens OE and
Hotmail.
