Some time ago...January I think, I requested assistance in saving e-mail
messages (many) so a person could read them. For example, mail saved and put
on disc so someone else can insert the disc in their computer and read each
e-mail. They can't be .dbx because those appear as computer goobly-gook. I
got a response and, when I followed the directions, I managed to do this
successfuly. Then I tried it sometime later and lost all the e-mail. Now I
have to do it again and I want to do it right. Someone want to give me step
by step instructions again?

To backup messages to a readable CD:
Create a folder on your Desktop, then in Outlook Express open the folder
with the messages you want to save. Highlight one message, then Ctrl+A will
highlight them all, (or hold the Ctrl button down while you select only the
messages you want), Now, drag and drop them to the folder on your Desktop.
(Easiest if the folder shortcut is on the Taskbar).
Now you can copy that folder to a CD and you will be able to read the
messages on the CD by double-clicking on them.
The downside of this is that messages that have the same subject will be
overwritten. To avoid this, purchase:

I respect your response Bruce and thank you. I guess now, I would also be
looking for the procedure to back up e-mail in the regular fashion as well.
I know there is something in that procedure about the store folder that must
be followed to a't' as I didn't and subsequently lost the e-mail. Do you
have those steps or can I locate them on the net somewhere. They would have
to be in terms a lay person can understand...lol

That would have been what I would have suggested had you not specifically
asked that they /not/ be dbx files.
If you have a single folder and want it on another machine, copy it to the
Desktop on the new machine, and then:
Open OE and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on the
Desktop. Open the new folder and then close OE. Go to Windows Explorer and
locate the Message Store folder for your OE identity, but don't open it.
Click on the Desktop and drag the file from the Desktop in the right hand
pane to the OE store folder in the left pane. Prompt - "Do you want to
overwrite......."? Click Yes.
