A working unsecure OS is infinitely better than non-working secure OS.
Just spent 1 week cleaning up the mess WUpdate made preventing

Same error on XP clone which rules out short-term problems cause I
only run this ~2/yr.
Might this be a good time to try Opera/Firefox/??.
Any & all comments/suggestions are welcome. I'd like to have browser
with Flash plugin, plugin to play WMV files & where I get protection
similar to SpywareBlaster & IE-SPYAD (now ZonedOut).
Your help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks- bye- Larry

Please reconfirm that you're running (1) WinXP SP2 and (2) IE6.
What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?
Has a Norton or McAfee application *ever* been installed?
Is the machine fully patched at Windows Update?
How is the machine connecting to the internet? Is a router involved?

Installed Firefox on XP#2 & successfully submitted HTML form. Note
XP#1 & XP#2 run on same hardware but XP#2 has alot disabled in Device
Mgr & it has ALOT less software. Problem occurred on both until I

Installing Firefox made IE6 work? What version of FF did you install?

Whoa! All bets are off and I refuse any further participation in this
thread until both machines are fully patched (which does not necessarily
include installing WinXP SP3).
PS: Having IE7 installed and getting the machines fully patched would allow
FF v3.x to work much more securely, too.
