Post subject: Generic Windows 98 Product Key
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>win98>gen_discussion (more info?)

I decided to re-post this so that if someone googles for this subject,
they will find it.
I got this key from Microsoft. They said it would work with *all*
CDs, and said, "feel free to pass this on".
I guess since they don't support it anymore, there's no reason to
keep it a secret anymore. Anyway, the generic key is:
VP9VV-VJW7Q-MHY6W-JK47R-M2KGJ
Be sure you look closely at the letters. On my LCD monitor, it is
difficult to see the difference between the single letter W and VV,
which is two letters "V".
In the first block, VP9 is followed by two V's. The rest are W's.

That doesn't sound like Microsoft to me, but I don't know much.

In most of my programs I can't tell rn from m. or rrm from who knows
what. This one has serifs and I can see the gaps, but the ones
that don't have them are real hard to read.

If you are inclined to email me
for some reason, remove NOPSAM Smile

LOL! This key sends your home address, a photo of you in high school and the names of all your ex-girlfriends straight to the FBI!

[Chuckle! Chuckle!] Hell! they already got that stuff the first time you plugged into the web! HA!

Anyways, yes the code worked for me too. Strangely enough though, when I tried using it for same OS install to another HD(same machine), it wouldn't accept the code!

I tried it (and other) keys at least five different times, but to no avail, but now, as I have come back for my second visit to this thread to reaffirm what i copied the first time was was correct (and it was), it has just now accepted the key!.....Talk about weird!

Wow,

Thankyou for posting that key, I thought I was screwed just now trying to install windows 98 on an older computer when it asked me for my product key. I wasn't expecting it at all, and I wasn't expecting to be able to find a useful key on the web either.

yay! Cool
