Email search fails

Robert,

I can drag RE.dbx to an empty directory, but how exactly do I do the search
after that? There are 200 messages in that folder and each one has 1 to 25
properties listed, each with an html address. The entire dbx file is 36 MB.

Drag them to an empty directory and search them as text files.
If necessary you could rename all the .eml extensions to .txt
but I doubt that would be necessary.

If you're lucky you might find that Windows Search indexes
all text but I haven't studied WS enough to know what all it does...

Hmm... One problem is that many E-mail contain both
Plain Text and HTML versions of their content so searching for
URLs is probably not very conclusive. Instead I tried this search:

kind:oe folder:inbox "</html>"

and it came up with E-mails, so it may be reasonable to assume
that the search was matching some indexed HTML... ; )

Robert suggested dragging the individual messages (EML files) to a Windows
folder, not DBX files.

Ahh -- okay.

Did that, but for some reason SEARCH fails to find the text UNTIL all the
file extensions were changed from .eml to .txt, which I did with a handy
utility called Bulk Rename Utility. Strange. Anyway, problem solved!

Something's new. I *can* find real HTML strings using Ctrl-Shift-F.
This is with IE8b2 though. Do you have an IE7 you can test that observation
with? I'm thinking that we may be perpetuating some empirical facts
which were once true only in earlier versions of IE and OE.

E.g. I found I don't need to use WS 4.0 to find E-mail messages
by searching for the string: </HTML> ; )

describing some very odd behavior in OE once IE8B2's been installed.
