I'm looking for a newsgroup which might help me with a question. This
appears to be the only group I can find.
Since I'm here I'll ask anyway.
I have a Pavilion a6460a
It appears to have a Geforce 8500 GT 512mb Video card.
512 mb GDDR2 memory
I/O Ports HDMI, Dual Link DVI, S Video
There is no Analog connection.
I need to run two monitors, 1 digital and 1 analog.
Will the Dual Link DVI with some kind of an adaptor run these two monitors?
1 NO?
2 Inadvisable? (I don't know what "Dual Link means")
3 I need to change my video card

Hello Gary,
Well I didn't find another newsgroup although I got some help from
"microsoft.public.windowsxp.video", although I'm running Vista.
Anyway, I've been advised that I can run my digital monitor on the DVI
plug as normal AND my analog monitor on the HDMI plug on the card VIA
adaptors.
I'm now going to a swap meet and I'll ask there before I buy a new card or
adaptors.
I'm just wondering now if anyone else has bought a system or video card with
only
a DVI connection and no analog plug.

HDMI to VGA adaptors are actually available, I saw them at a swap meet
yesterday although I didn't enquire about the price as I decided to purchase
a new card. However I do doubt very much that they are expensive.
And for anyone interested, the Final answer to my question direct this
morning from HP Support (by telephone) is.
A second VGA monitor can be connected to the HDMI socket on the card
allowing you to run two monitors. So there you have it, straight from HP!

$199 - Wow! Is that US or American Dollars?
Now take a look at this site
They got them from $29.95 to Hundreds AUS.

Hey, I did more than an hour of research on the topic. Doesn't mean I didn't
miss something, but... Your link shows me nothing, and a search of the site
for the terms HDMI + VGA produced zero results. Just searching on HDMI gave
me a long list, but it's in no particular order and I don't feel like
browsing them all. How about you give me a link to that cheap one (or a few
of them.) I'd like to see their specs and compare them to what I've learned
on the topic.
